1977 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 4dr review from North America

"Fast, smooth, comfy, dependable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Transmission gave out and car rolled off a cliff (NOT the car/manufacturer's fault... some idiot retrofitted the car with an inferior transmission never meant to be beind a modified 350).

General comments?

I've owned two of '77 Chevy Caprice Classics (and 4 Caprices in total). The first one was my first car ever, a 9C1, ex-cop car. For 8 months it was my fast and comfy companion in the days of dirt-cheap gas. Nothing ever went wrong with it even though I drove it like a maniac. It was dragraced off of just about every light I ever stopped at, did countless smokeshows, drifts, etc, and never complained. (except the one time I did a smokeshow for so long it actually THREW a belt... went home, put it back and she was fine). Sadly, one day when I was parked right by the edge of a small cliff, the transmission (which turned out to be one not meant for that car) gave out and it rolled off. (popped out of Park and into Reverse while the car was idling). So it was a write-off.

The second car I owned for a few months. It was the typical grannymobile...one-owner, driven to church and back, IMMACULATE with the F41 suspension package. I left that one bone stock (I did a few things to the first one) and it served me very well until my brother bought it off of me. Served him well for a few years too 'till a few things went wrong, including the transmission... he drove it for about 3 or 4 years when he decided he didn't want to keep repairing an aging car and gave it to a wrecker. A shame, since the car was in MINT condition just needed some love.
