1988 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 review from North America
"My Grandfather's 1988 Z24 is still running, after 20 yrs. Great car, but expensive to keep running!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
- Had to replace oil intake hose in engine, which was blowin'!
- Recently put a new air filter in engine and replaced coolant mounting caps.
- Needs a window alignment on left side door!
- Broken signal light in front, on right center side (Was replaced as of 8-27-2007.)
- Cruise control/signal stick, is broken. (Replacement part $300.00 crazy)
- Air conditioner doesn't work, because at the time, the air conditioner for this car, used coolant (which is banned today, for environmental reasons). So I can't put anything else in it!
- Heater works very well
- Water leaks from the driver side if it rains hard, and there is linking in the trunk (also if it rains hard)!
- Needs a new convertible top cover on the outside. (tearing at the sides on top)
- Just replaced the power steering pump as of 3-10-2008
- Needs a new driver side mirror (cracked by ice, from a snow plow)!
- Replaced Engine (2.8 V6)in July 2009
-Now it needs a new Transmission and Alternator (as of 9/10/2009).
General comments?
- This car belong to my grandfather, after he passed away, my mom got it. And now I have ownership. I remember riding in this car when I was 8 years old, and it still runs so what great today.
(Overall)
- 25 miles to the gallon (about 247 to 257 miles on one full tank).
- Still runs well after 20 years.
- Convertible top still works, no problems.
- Bumper, side mirrors signal lights are in good shape.
- New brakes (2007) and tires just added in 2006.
- Car has a new rebuilt engine in it (1996).
- Still great looking, original paint job still in tacked, no rust stains.
- Car eats gas a little fast after the half way point!
- Runs smooth on the highway.
- And most of all, the girls love it, because it's a convertible.
