2002 Chevrolet Cavalier LS Sport Coupe from North America - Comments

Since I bought this car, nothing has gone wrong with it, and nothing went wrong with it under the previous owner, either.

This car has close to 90,000 miles on it, but it rides like it has 20,000 or less. The engine is smooth and efficient, the gear ratio gets you up to speed relatively quickly while still delivering great gas mileage (I get around 35-40 mpg with the 5-speed manual Getrag transmission), and the suspension is the smoothest-operating that I've ever seen on a compact car. I used to race cars for a living, but I would NOT recommend racing this Cavalier around, simply because the engine won't take 140 HP at 6,000 RPM for more than 30 seconds or so. If you're looking for a race car, buy a Corvette Z06, which is the best value for your money performance-wise. The Cavalier LS Sport Coupe is just fine for zipping around town in a sporty-looking car at a compact price. The exterior styling on the LS Sport makes it stand out from all other Cavaliers, with lower ground effects, a rear spoiler, chrome rims, and body-color side mirrors. The interior is simple, compact, and comfortable, although it isn't the best car for transporting five people at once. The bucket seats are simple and comfortable, and the cockpit instruments are clear and easy to read. The shifter requires little effort to go from gear to gear, although you must lift the locking ring to go into reverse, which is a nice safety feature. The cockpit makes you feel one with the car, because everything is right there, easily reachable and easy to control. The AC is crisp and cold even on 90-degree days, and the rear defroster works well. The stock 6-speaker sound system is great, with good sound quality from either CD or cassette. The back seat folds flat to allow a lot more cargo room than you would think(I've fit two external-frame backpacks and a mountain bike in there), and the cargo net at the rear of the trunk is a nice touch to prevent large or delicate objects from moving around too much. Overall, this is a clean, simple, efficient compact car that handles well, looks nice, is well-designed inside and out, and makes you feel what it's like to be in tune with the machine and the road.

This is our second Chevy Cavalier and it's as reliable as the first. This is my wife's daily driver and she still loves it as we bought it new in 2002. We have had no major service issues with this car. Also agree the A/C pushes out very cold air when needed.

My only issue with the car is it's not designed for tall people as my head hits the roof when driving. However it's very comfortable for average sized people or women. Highly recommend this car for reliability and value.
