1991 Chevrolet Cavalier VL review from North America
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Sensor, 68000 miles.
Shifter boot, 114,000 miles.
Battery, 130,000 miles.
General comments?
Bought the VL coupe brand new for under $7,000 + 795 for extended warranty. I'm still kicking myself for that because I never had to use it.
Loved the dash, although I wished that it had a tachometer, but hey, for that kind of money?
Considering the price I paid, the engine, 5-speed transmission, distributor-less ignition, hydraulically actuated clutch, stainless steel exhaust system, styling, solid handling, great economy, fun to drive, all these were beyond my expectations.
The car proved extremely reliable, I experienced the first major trouble after 7 years at 130,000 miles when the original battery gave up.
The car was not garaged most of the time and began losing its luster. It was time to move on anyway, but I still have fond memories.
This was one great car, I don't understand why the press gave it such bad rap.
