1991 Chevrolet Cavalier review from North America
"Takes a lickin' and keeps on tickin'"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Shocks were bad at the time of purchase, 17,000 miles.
Clutch went out at 140,000, and again at 175,000 miles.
Alternator went at 140,000.
Starter went out at 160,000 miles.
Ignition module went at 170,000 miles.
Transmission went out at 180,000 miles.
Doors start to rust from the bottom at
120,000 miles.
General comments?
The things that went wrong with this car were normal wear and tear, after 180,000 miles, you'd expect some transmission problems, if the car is even still moving that is.
I drive this Cavalier like it's a Hummer and if I drove it as if it were a Caddy, it may keep up better. But what's the use of owning a car if you can't do what you want with it? Clutch and tranny went out due to 'hot rodding' a 4-banger. The car's got pick up and it won't very often let you down if you know how to drive it.
