1990 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 review from North America
"Great performance and reliability in one package"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Brake line clip came loose at 2,500 miles and was covered under the warranty.
Third gear switch went bad at 88,000 miles.
CPU replaced twice, once at 95,000 miles and once at 148,000 miles.
Cracked piston at 145,000 miles. Replaced the motor at cost of $2,800.
Crank sensor replaced twice over the last 5 years.
General comments?
This car has been a pleasure to own. Although the motor was replaced at 148,000 miles, I attribute that to the fact that I was a typical 21 year old American male when I purchased the car and I drove the car extremely hard for the first few years that I owned it.
It has been used as primary commuting transportation for 95% of its almost 12 years of operation, and has done so with hardly any problems.
The car still looks great inside and out, and gets numerous complements. I have two binders containing all service records from the date of purchase and firmly believe that maintenance is the key to longevity, and also the key to making any auto a sound investment.
