1992 Chevrolet Cavalier review from North America

The brakes have been replaced twice in four years, and have never really been the greatest.

A transmission switch had to be replaced after weekly stalling leaving me stranded every time. This is apparently a common problem with this particular year.

The speedometer doesn't work at all if it's cool out (IE mornings and winter).

The inside dash lights don't work, so unless your good at guessing your speed at night this is definitely a hazard.

The power door locks no longer function normally, some work some of the time while on other doors, not at all.

The starter was replaced.

The exhaust was replaced.

Power steering hose replaced.

Substantial rusting on the lower half of the entire car.

Inadequate windshield washer spray; leaves the drivers side dangerously dirty while the passeger side squeaky clean. Replacing wipers did not help.

Air conditioning and heat do not work very well.

Anti-lock breaks are extremely touchy which is not only annoying, but very dangerous.

Definitely on the gas guzzler side.

This was an inexpensive first car to purchase, but unfortunately a nightmare to maintain cost-wise (as you can see by the long list above).

This is definitely not a reliable car for long trips on the open road, but served me fine running around the city when it was in good working order.
