1993 Chevrolet Cavalier VL review from North America
"The most reliable car out there"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Alternator failed at 160000.
Head gasket blew at 100000.
Dome light fell off.
Air conditioning hasn't worked since 100000.
Heater and defrosters don't work.
Small coolant leak.
Smell of gas surrounds the car.
General comments?
I absolutely love this car. Looks wise, it is astounding how well it has maintained its appearance. The paint still gleams at 177K miles. It'll easily do 100mph. The 2.2L with the 3 spd automatic, while seemingly sluggish, are stone reliable. All you have to do is change the fluids and it will keep going. It's no drag racer, but it'll hold its own most of the time. I've beaten an explorer, a stock 97 mustang, a jeep wrangler, and a few civics.
It handles itself very well in adverse weather conditions. I've gone through snow that some pickups cannot negotiate safely, without hesitation or danger from the car. Wet weeather is not an issue either. THe braking setup is a jewel. Very effective. All in all, this car is a total package.
