1999 Chevrolet Cavalier Z24 review from North America
"Very reliable car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Front side marker lights leak water and corroded terminals.
Engine burns oil - 1qt/5000 miles from 80K to 130K, 3qt/5000 miles from 130k and up.
General comments?
Very reliable car - Never had the car in for service in 185k of driving. Only routine maintenance; oil, filters, brakes, tires, & spark plugs have been replaced.
The engine is fairly strong for the size and weight of the vehicle. Acceleration is decent and makes it fun to drive.
Fuel economy has been very good. 29 to 31 mpg in 70/30 hwy/city driving. 32 to 34 in all highway.
Handling is/was very good making a twisty road fun to drive. Handling has gone down hill, but routing maintenance items (struts) need replaced.
A/C is excellent - Never been serviced and still is better than nearly all new cars.
Interior has held up very well. Seats are good for local driving, long trips can get uncomfortable.
Exterior & paint is very good. Some of the black plastic trim has degraded; paint (white) looks and shines up like new.
