1987 Chevrolet Chevette review from North America
"An awesome car for anyone, and great on gas"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The carburetor was plugged on one barrel and needed to be cleaned. Some of the parts on the carb needed replaced. Also the automatic choke was stuck on and couldn't be fixed.
The rotor and distributor cap cracked at 145 000km.
The door lock on the driver side was sticky and often didn't unlock with the key.
The radio broke and had to be replaced.
General comments?
This car is an awesome car to own.
The level of performance that comes from a compact like this is incredible. The 1.6L if tuned correctly has a large amount of power for it's size and when coupled with the 4-speed manual really delivers on the acceleration. While the top speed isn't very high, 145km/h on my car, it is plenty for the size of the vehicle. This engine is also great on gas.
The handling of the car is pretty good. It is also very good in the winter if you put sandbags in the back. This car is also almost indestructible. My car for example was rolled over by the previous owner and only received some dents, but the car still ran fine.
