1986 Chevrolet Chevette Scooter review from North America

When we first got it it had a fairly bad oil leak, but the car was 15 years old so it's bound to have some problems, my dad rebuilt the engine and it was good for three years till the starter went, that was replaces in the summer of 2004 it's now nov. 2005 and last month the fan belt went, big deal, it's $12 to replace and I had a funny noise fixed that was caused by the muffler coming a bit loose, that's cost me $40. Now I just got back from the shop and apparently the brakes are starting go. He asked how much I'm willing to put into a chevette and that it's on its last legs. Now I'm sad because since I've got it and been living on my own for 3 years I've spent only $700 total in repairs and maintenance which includes tires, the starter and about 4 or 5 oil changes and the lastest little bit. I go through only about $25 in gas a week and it's driven quite a bit between me and my two jobs and my roomate. I'm really hoping my dad suggests getting the brakes fixed in it cause I really don't want this to be the end of the vette! So many good times!

I absolutely LOVE my chevette! I had three roommates last winter and when their three fords wouldn't start at -45 degrees celcius my chevette started fine! Granted I had a brand new really good battery installed 6 months before.

I've taken the vette off-roading and on countless roadtrips and it's only left me stranded once, when the starter went a couple years ago. It's even surprisingly comfortable even after being in it for 9 hours! I love my vette.
