The stock tires went bad in about 15,000 miles.
When hitting a bump the steering wheel jumps.
Front strut mounts sound shot.
Engine makes weird noise when going uphill.
Check engine light came on at 10,000 miles.
Brakes wore very fast.
THIS CAR HAS HORRIBLE MIRRORS.
Bad gas mileage.
No acceleration.
It is a very boring car to drive.
Do not recommend it to anyone.
Your Cobalt is still under warranty, get it looked at for the front shock mounts and the steering wheel jumping. The dealer should have fixed the check engine light problem. I have a 2007 Cobalt LS and haven't had any of the problems you've described, but mine's a 5 speed and has good pickup and gas mileage. I haven't had a problem at all.
I have a 2006 Cobalt LS, and it has better acceleration than most vehicles.
The tires did wear fast (kinda expected from factory cheapo's), but how hard did you drive your car (spinouts, rockfords, icy conditions etc.).
My car has over 94000km on it and has had very little trouble.
This review seems a bit unfair. I find the Cobalt to have a very attractive and comfortable interior for being nothing more than an American economy car.
Acceleration is quite zippy in my opinion. The 2.2L 145hp 4cyl. engine is quite large and powerful compared to the Cobalt's competition. If you can break traction on take-off, it can't be as bad as you're saying. Passing power at highway speed is decent.
The fit/finish and amenities rival foreign luxury cars of 10yrs ago that I'm accustomed to. The ride is smooth as glass and it's a very quiet car at cruising speed.
I think the Cobalt is a very nice, if not a little bland looking, economy car.
I hate this car. Of course I'm stuck because I stupidly put myself into a four year lease. Key gets stuck, had to replaces tires within the first 2 years, $380.00 had to have lower control arm bushing replace, $153.00, I got a bargain on that, was told the motor mounts are going and now I have to have both wheel bearing replaced, $400.00. I have to keep this junk until October and then I'm buying foreign. I'm afraid to drive it so I'm driving my husband's 1996 Nissan pickup, which actually has a much nicer ride, until I can come up with the money.
