NOTHING!
This car is stunning in every way! I got the SS, has the 17" rims, sunroof, body kit, nicer chrome exhaust! I ABSOLUTELY LOVE THIS CAR! my 3 friends got a Cobalt also, 2 got the SS like me. One got the base. The base Cobalt has many problems, I really suggest getting the Cobalt SS! it has the 2.4L engine instead of the 2.2L, NO GOVERNOR! woo hoo!
This car is very much upgraded from my Cavalier! that thing was a real turtle! doesn't have any go power! AND had a sucky sterio system. as for the Cobalt SS... a 7 speaker amplified pioneer CD MP3 player! totally coolness!
THE RED IS REALLY HOT ON THIS CAR!
This is a very good car if ya want good gas mileage, while having a sporty looking car that leaves people staring while you drive by leaving a good sound in peoples ears! (the upgraded exhaust system!)
I just bought a red SS and I love it. The power, the interior, the stereo, the sporty look. It's awesome. The base cobalt is okay, they really should dress up the interior on the ls and lt trims. I might have considered buying the lt or ls if the inerior wassn't so plain and cheap looking.
Hey!
It is me again, the one with this car! yea this car is still all good. haven't had one problem. very happy with it! well I hope to hear from ya again man.
Jeremy.
Actually, Chevy added a new model, an SS without a supercharger. It does have a 2.4L engine. I suspect it is the old Quad 4/Twin Cam engine they used in the Sunfire and Z24.
It's actually not a old 2.4 4cyl with 150 hp. It's the new and improved Ecotec engine, with variable valve timing, it delivers 90% of its peak torque @2400 rpm. and it has 171 hp. Trust me, I looked it up at the chevy dealership.
Hi whats up I have cobolt ls stock black with the racing vynils n black rims it came with well I was wonder what would be good for my 1st upgrade any ideas fellow chevy men.
I raced one of these SS's before... and I beat it... it may have more power than the Cavaliers (and a better design... i think) but its still doesn't quite have the balls as other super/turbocharged compacts... but I do have to say this... I would SOOO rather have this over the imports and over the Saturn redlines...
P.S I beat the person in a bone stock Neon...
I agree with the comment above, the Cobalt SS is not
as fast as you think. I have a 2001 Volkswagen Jetta,
GLS with the VR6 engine, all stock I raced my friend who has
the SS and I thought I was going to loose. My car beat
his by almost two car lengths, and it's an automatic.
The Cobalt SS is a really cool looking ride and does
have lots power for a 4 banger. I would consider it if you
want to make your freinds head spin. As for racing you might
to consider minor mods. P.S. my friend does know how to race.
I'm a mechanic and car enthusiast, and NO WAY did a stock Jetta beat a Cobalt SS turbo. The Cobalt SS turbo has been proclaimed "The fastest front drive car ever tested" by one leading auto magazine (which is surprising, as all the car magazines are owned by the Japanese). I've driven the Jetta, it's a nice car, fast, and well put together, but it is NOT in the same class as a Cobalt SS turbo, Neon SRT turbo, or Focus SVT. These little cars are all about speed and are capable of smoking just about ANYTHING out there. Maybe your friend was dozing off or something.
I can't help, but look down apon the non supercharged SS's. Its like having a neon with an SRT-4 body kit on it and a few extra horsepower. GM could have made them a little bit more respectable by at least making them look different then the REAL SS's. The SC version is the only way to go. And the base cobalt really dosnt have any chronic problems so if your friend got one that has had some issues it just his/her car, not the whole series.

There is no such thing as a Cobalt turbo'ed... they are all supercharged... but yes, there is no way a stock Jetta could beat a stock Cobalt SS SC in a heads up race. Maybe if the Jetta was like running an 1/8 mile and the Cobalt was running a 1/4 mile! It's just not practical! Jetta's are slow! Period! 8ish 0-60!?? My 1986 Mercury Couger I bought for $50 bucks could make an embarrasment out of that! LOL! Cobalt SS SC run a 6.1 0-60 and a 14.6 1/4 mile!! So to who ever left the turbo comment, do more research, and to who ever left the Jetta comment, Santa Claus isn't real.. and Jettas can't beat Cobalts!
You say Jetta's are slow, but, I bet you have never driven one. Especially the VR6 which is underrated.
Also you need to consider driver ability, weight, and torque.
It is possible for a Jetta to beat a Cobalt.
You cannot assume based on track times. To who ever made the last comment, I clocked my wife's Jetta 0-60 in 6.7 sec.
I own an 06 ss sc. the only stock-trim car that has ever fairly beaten me is an sti, and he only got me by 3/4 car. the cobalt has a lot of low end power, I had the sti up until the top of second gear, then he went right by me. I'm very impressed with my car, and would reccomend it to any one.

This comment is typical of an American car buyer - all they are interested in is acceleration times. Sorry, but there is a lot more than simply going 0 - 60. HANDLING, something American manufacturers think is a silly pursuit, is where the action at. That and refinement.
All I can say is I hope you didn't pay anywhere near sticker for your car since the resale value is going to kill you in the end.
Is it just me or does there seem to be a lot of import vs domestic flame wars going on here these days? you would figure people had something better to do with their time.
18:56 I wouldn't call it a war, I'd call it a beating, with the domestics on the receiving end. Check the sales figures.
