1994 Chevrolet Corsica review from North America
"Car takes a beating and still won't die!!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Things wrong when car was bought:
No battery.
Had to replace the fuel pump when I bought it as the car wouldn't stay running.
A/C doesn't work as the car had a bad compressor when bought, but I didn't care since I even wear a coat in the summer.
High/low beam, turn signal lever was broken internally when bought so I couldn't switch the lights from high to low.
Driver seat was worn and all other seats where cracking when car was bought.
Thing that went wrong for me:
Glove compartment latch broke soon after I got the car.
Power steering pulley broke at about 171,000 miles.
About 175,000 miles The right rear Hub & Bearing went out and started screaming as if it was plum out of grease, both rear brake Brake Calipers, Rotors, and Brake pads all needed to be replaced as it was metal on metal for about 500 miles with my ABS Light on.
Not to mention the leaking on the passengers floor
that this car is famous for.
All repairs that where made on the car where done by my father and I, and we got parts cheap with a friends discount.
General comments?
This car had sat for 6 years in a pasture before I bought it for $300. After I got it and fixed the problems so I could drive it, this car went through HELL. I ran into a trailer house, was always on the gas and taking corners at over 30MPH, I waited until the last second to slam on the brakes, nearly ran the motor out of oil once, ran the car out of brake fluid, and hit a trailer house.
I kicked the crap out of the body panels, hood, and door due to the frustration while putting in a stereo system. And I also punched out a window and kicked out a tail light.
Given the torture I've put this car through, it's been very reliable and has never failed me. Even when I was in Oklahoma and the power steering pulley broke. I drove the car from Stillwater, OK to Hays, KS without repairing it, and the belt never came off or broke.
Despite my horrific driving the car still gets 21-23mpg in town and 29-31mpg on highway, It has very responsive acceleration and even with bald tires seems to stick to the road during fast cornering.
The ride is rough, but that's mainly because the car needs shocks, struts, and still has two of the tires that where on it when bought since they looked new and are square from sitting flat. Not to mention the tires are choppy due to my fast cornering.
