When I bought this car it was white. About six months later the paint started to peel and fall off in large chunks. Now the car is a wonderful primer gray.
The Engine spun a bering at about 90,000 miles. The cost of another used engine was $650.00 with 70,000 miles.
The engine temperature runs almost in the red year round despite a replaced thermostat.
Overall this is a zippy little car. The 3.1, V6 can move this light car around fairly quick. This sat well with me since I like a car that can get up and go when you go to pass another vehicle. This car will provide the average driver with more than enough speed.
This car has the worst paint job I ever saw. If you brush against the car, the paint will flake off. My white Corsica is now primer gray.
The engine is always on the brink of overheating. When I first bought the car, I swapped out the thermostat which didn't remedy the problem.
The blown engine at 90,000 miles didn't sweep me off my feet either. Most engines go longer than that before spinning a bering. The car wasn't paid off yet, so I had to pay to put another used engine in it.
One last point is if you live in northern climates where the weather will go below zero (Fahrenheit), expect
an engine that will not start. It has hit 10 degrees below zero where I live and the engine will not turn over. You will just wear the battery down trying.
I didn't have the same experience with the paint job, and neither did others I know. My Corsica was kept out in the snow for a good number of years and the paint is almost mint. Otherwise, do you have to do the rustproof about once a year?? YEah... Do you have to take care of the car?? YEah... Much depends on how it was maintained. You can make a German engineered engine leave you at 90 000, and there are ways to make a Mercedes collapse in 2 years!
So...providing a 'dissatisfied' review for a Corsica... what's the point... it still beats me up to now.
I live near Quebec City - we've had this winter a constant 40 degrees (Celsius) below zero. At 268,000 KMs my Corsica always starts the first time even at extremely low temperatures. So things like "it won't start"...maybe at 120000km it's time for a new battery or alternator. Instead, you made it sound like it's the Corsica's reliability. I'm gonna move to a Golf GTI VR6 but still I wouldn't pose dissatisfied with the Corsica just because the VR6 - and not a late model Chevy- is the car of my dreams. "Buying another car from that manufacturer" refers more to being happy or not with what you have. When you weigh what you paid vs what you get - you're quite hard to understand.
