2004 Chevrolet Epica LT review from North America
"An extremely comfortable and smooth quiet car"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Now we bought the car pre-owned from a Chevrolet dealer so we haven't seemed to have all the nagging problems that others certainly have had with their 2004 Epica's.
That said, we did have to have the ABS sensors replaced on the front wheels of the car only after 2 months ownership because the 'ABS' and 'TCS' indicator lights would stay lit after starting the car, indicating that there is a problem. Both the Anti-Lock Brakes and the Traction Control System use the same sensors.
After the replacement, we have not had a problem and both systems work great.
The Epica's fuel mileage that quite a few of these surveys mention as being poor is mostly due to the transmission. The transmission is an adaptive unit, in it responds to drivers input on the accelerator in a Economy, Normal, or Sport mode and adjusts the shifts accordingly. Constant changing in vehicle driving styles I think overwhelms the transmissions software and causes the poorer mileage. I will be the first to admit the mileage is not great for the size and class of vehicle the Epica is.
General comments?
This has been a great car. It is very comfortable and most of all very quiet. The quiet really is due to Epica's unique engine. An in-line 6 is always going to be smoother than a V6.
The quality of the interior appointments is top notch. Friends and family are always impressed when in this vehicle, and even more so when driving it. The comment is, as always, how smooth and quiet the Epica is!!!
Snow certainly has not been a problem for this car. When we purchased the vehicle it had new Dunlop tires which certainly have a better tread design than the original tires did, as evident by the spare tire, which by the way is a full service spare, another nice feature of the car.
