2001 Chevrolet Impala Base review from North America
"Expensive Piece of Junk!!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I purchased my Impala on August 10th, 2005.
August 17th, Mileage: 59,345. Check Engine light came on. There was a problem with the evaporation system and fuel system. Cost $79 to fix.
August 22nd, Mileage: 59,668. I had to return car to shop due a horrible rattling noise on acceleration. Turns out muffler baffles were rotted. $33 for temporary fix, but muffler will need replaced soon.
December 9th, Mileage: 62,799. car taken into shop due to check for a strange clunking noise coming from the front end of the car. Turns out this is a chronic problem for the Impala. No recall from GM. I will have to deal with this problem out of pocket.
February 13th, Mileage: 64,004. car taken to shop for low coolant light. Turns out most of the coolant leaked into the engine. Intake Manifold Gasket had to be replaced. Turns out once again this is common defect on GM vehicles. $595 out of pocket for repairs.
March, my transmission is starting to slip. I don't even want to know what that is going to cost!!!
General comments?
This is a beautiful car outside, but is junk on the inside. Granted, I bought the car used, but it only had 55,000 miles on it. To have this many problems this frequently is absolutely ridiculous! I have only owned the car for seven months and I have already sank $700 into it! Now my transmission is starting to slip!
Buying the Impala was the biggest mistake I ever made. I will never buy a GM vehicle again.
