1995 Chevrolet Lumina 4 Door Sedan review from North America
"An Unbelievably great Car!"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
In all honesty, not a whole lot has gone wrong with the car beside routine maintenance I.e. brakes/tires/etc... Obviously you will always find bad apples from the tree, but for the most part, you can expect a good reliable automobile.
You will find that the small 3.1L V6 from GM has a slight "tick" while idling. This is in more than just the Lumina, the Grand Am also has the same engine. You can help reslove this problem by getting that "engine restorer" stuff at Wal*Mart, however the "tick" will not cause you any real problems. Most of the time, it goes away after the vehicle has warmed up. However, it is more annoying than it will be anything else.
The biggest problem I have had with my Lumina has been the paint, but that has not just been a GM problem, but has been a problem with all cars around this year. My Vehicle has the Same Exaust system it had when I bought it 3 years ago. It has the same Shocks and struts as 3 years ago. The car is solid and rust free. As tight as it was when I bought it.
Another problem I have had with the car, is the interior. The rear view mirror fell off (can't blame GM for that) the dome light fell apart also, literally! The only reason I sold the car, was because I didn;t want to spend another 1500-2000 on a new paint job. :)
General comments?
The Lumina has been listed as a Consumers Guide Best Buy, and I believe it. The overall performance of the car is going to depend on how well you treat it. Constant abuse will limit the vehicle's lifespan however if you take care of it, you will expect better performance. I have driven my Lumina over 35000 miles, putting a total of over 112000 miles on it, and the biggest thing I have done to it, has been brakes and a water-pump.
You can't expect nothing to brake on a car that you drive. Sure it can sit in you driveway and be perfect. Overall, I would expect you to find dependability, reliability, and overall great performance on the Lumina. Definitely money well spent!!
