"Its fast and reliable"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Vaccum hose clamp let go at 196,000 that was a fun ride home.

Exhaust was replaced due to numerous holes and bad mufflers at 198,000.

Starter replaced at 200,000.

Left rear hub assembly replaced at 201,000.

If anyones exhaust on the z34 makes a terrible sound at certain revs let me know what it is so I can fix it it hard to pick up girls with a rattle in the exhaust. email me at dusty_roads16@hotmail.com.

General comments?

I love this car its so quick and I can show off in it.

I can't believe I paid 2500 buck for it with no rust what so ever and in mint condition.

Yea that rattle is either an leak in the mufflers when the pipe goes from 2-1/4 to 1-7/8. or a leak where the exhaust wraps around from the front exhaust manifold to the collector in the rear of the motor. it could also be the exhaust donut gasket in the back of the motor.

Hope this helps.

I have a 91 Z34 Lumina. I've had the car for just over 2 years. I got it with 197,00km (118,000miles). In that time I have replaced the gas tank, altenator, starter, power steering pump, and most recently the ignition module. I have just had the EGR valve go on it today!

When the car is running well (most of the time) it runs GREAT! Very fast and for the most part has been reliable!

It's the best $120 CDN I've ever spend buying a car!

I think I might get a z34 as my first car. I think it would make a good first car because I can get one cheap, and it is very fast. I also know what I am doing under the hood. please comment back.

My sister in law has a 91 lumina Z34 she is having problems with the battery draining. It is not the battery or the alternator any suggestions would be appreciated. Whenever she turns the lights on the car dies.

My dad owned a Z34, and I always wanted one. Once the timing belt let go he got rid of it. I like these cars and I now want one for myself. If you live in the new york long island, or NYC area, and you have a Z34 you would like to sell that is in good condition, then please call me or leave me a voice message. Thank you. -Tyler

I myself have owned a 91 Lumina Z34 for about a year. Just recently I have found that my ignition module & all three coils are bad on it. They aren't completely ruined because it does start. We have replaced the transmission, rear brakes & emergency brake, and I am replacing the front brakes. I love this car, but it's been a pain lately. Winter has made it much worse. My exhaust has also been rattlin' at about 2.5rpm. It's a handful, but I still love it.

Let me know if you have any suggestions please

Thanks

Hello I'm writing this to help some of you out if I can..I'm a master auto & truck mechanic of almost 20 yrs. I recently picked up a torch red 93 z-34 for a sweet deal... I love the car as do many of my friends HOWEVER.. If you do not have plenty of auto repair skills, money & a hoist I would seriously consider a Monte Carlo or Euro with a 3.1...The 3.4 in this car requires a lot of maintenance & everything about it is a pain to work on. However it will run with the v-8s on the highway when its not on my hoist. I recently did the transmission, alt, coolant bypass hoses, rear main seal, intake gaskets on mine & was considering a 4 sale sign as my next modification.. This car also has a really lousy timing belt setup & is prone to leaking oil in strange places... SO Please look these cars over good before you buy one & find out when the timing belt & alternator were changed or if they need to be changed & expect trans failure (auto) if you drive like I do..P>S my car just turned 126k...SWEET CAR, but SUCKS TO WORK ON...R.P MONROE MI.

The 3.4L DOHC is like being in a needy relationship. My car is not a lumina, but it is still based on the same W body construction and has a 3.4L motor. My car is a '92 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme International. it is a very sweet car and it goes like a bat out of hell. when I got it it was beat to crap mechanically so I rebuilt the motor and I am still working some bugs out. It has 290,000 km on it. the suspension is completely worn out, but I have all bushings, parts to repair it. the motor turns 7000rpm no problem; don't even get a noisy lifter. the problems I am having are a bad miss, and my rear crank seal is leaking oil all over the clutch.

So to sum it up, this car is not for everyone. If you do not have patience or the knowhow to fix it yourself, better be prepared for some hefty shop bills because these aren't easy cars to work on. chances are some shops will turn you down because the car is just too hard to work on for some people.

I have a 91 Z34 and my problem is with the idle. The vehicle idles to high 1500 rpm up to 3000 rpm. Using the OBD reader I've replaced the O2 sensor and the Idle Air Control sensor. The only other sensor (s) left is the MAP sensor or MAF sensor which ever one it has. Any ideas. Thanks.

The GM 3.4 dohc has a poor intake gasket setup. The gasket gets dry and brittle and leaks, which could cause erratic idling. My '92 spikes to 3000 rpm @ startup and then settles. I am sure this can't be good for the top end. Good Luck.

My Lumina is very rare model. it's a 4 door with the 3.4. The engine on my Lumina is in good condition now, but when something goes wrong, it's a big deal. If I don't have the money to fix it, I'm gonna need lots of time.

I love it, but I would never buy another car with that engine. No doubt it's fast, considering it's a big pain to fix anything in it.

I own a 1993 Z34 and what I have replaced for now its the timing belt. The mechanic told me it was hard to replace, but he did it. Runs great and fast, but it drinks gasoline.

I have a 1991 Z34 and am now replacing the EGR, idle air control valve and catalytic converter. My main problem is the previous owners decided to weld a straight pipe on there and now I can't figure out what my inner diameter is for a new caty converter without taking a sawzaw to cut off the pipe. Are they standard 2 1/4" front to 1 7/8" rear? Also, yes, this car is a pain to work on, but oh so much fun for an excuse to leave the kids with my husband and head out to the garage for some quality alone time under my hood. One pin-head question I have is, Where is the Idle Air Control Valve, and how can I tell which one I need? LOL! I bought both, but for the life of me, can't find where it is. There's about 180,000 miles on my beautiful custom baby and the only thing going off with it is my fuel float is dirty so if I go below 1/4 tank I get nervous, and I believe either my steering knuckle or CV joints are starting to go. Great car with sporty looks and a lot of get up n GO!
