2001 Chevrolet Malibu review from North America
"Good basic reliable transportation"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Air conditioner failure in first summer, fixed under warranty. Car was delivered with annoying buzzes and rattles that the dealer mostly corrected. The rest I just got used to.
"Knock" from front driver's side wheel (only in the winter, on cold days) when I hit a bump on the road that no one has been able to explain or correct.
Front brake pads and rotors replaced at 50,000 kms. One set of tires replaced at the same time, second set replaced recently at 60,000 kms. No other major repairs.
General comments?
This car is ordinary, basic transportation. It is not ugly, nor is it attractive. It's not fast or nimble, but it's no slouch either. As someone who just wants to get from Point A to Point B, it's all I ask for. It has has been reliable and has not had servicing issues. The interior is probably its weakest point. Fit and finish is a bit substandard, but not intolerably so. The V6 engine produces 170hp - just the right amount for a car this size. Overall I have been satisfied with this vehicle and feel it was a good value for what I paid. I'm now using it to tow a small popup camper, and it does reasonable well so far.
