2000 Chevrolet Malibu LS review from North America
"The car needs far to much service compared to any other car I've had including other GM products"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Have replaced front brake pads 8 times
Rotors 4 times
No work at all on rear brakes
Head gaskets replaced
Front struts/springs bearing replaced
Fan switch repaired
Mysterious relay clicking twice. Still does it
Trunk leaks water since day one never resolved
replaced gas tank
Exhaust system replaced.
Battery twice.
Front wheel bearings replaced.
Fan belt numerous times.
Piston slap for at least the last 4 years
Engine surge as all others have stated.
The killer... Overhaul A/C system at a cost of $4500.00.
General comments?
I use this my car for business so I accept maintenance cost to be higher than a "family car". I also really don't have a problem with breaks, belts batteries etc.
I would like to focus on the biggies and some of those
should never occur.
1 Head gaskets!Who builds engines that self
deteriorates head gaskets.
2. Piston slap, Again who is building these engines.
3. Engine surge, I solved this problem by driving around
in 3rd gear. The problem I have been told is not the
engine it is actually a trany break down. The trany
is jumping in and out of "direct drive".
4. A/C overhaul,$4500.00 dollar repair had to be re-service with in 24 hours, and again 3 more times in a year and a half and bye the way is currently not working.
