I have 99 Malibu V6 and the same thing happened to me with the manifold.

I have also had problems with the A/C system in my car; it seems that the air does not work in 1 or 2 position.

The rear lights burn constantly and the seat belt casing from the drivers side is also broken.

And finally I cannot roll down the passenger window using the drivers side control.

I am not sure that I would buy another GM car.

I have a 1999 Malibu and I've experienced every problem listed in this thread. Actually, the car is in the shop now because the coolant system is messed up again. This is probably the 5-6th time I've had to have something fixed regarding the coolant. Just this Monday, the coolant was leaking so bad, I had to refill it every few hours. I just spent $600 a month ago to have the problem fixed (at an actual GM dealership). I've replaced the brakes probably 4 times (also just a month ago) and now have to do it again. The air conditioner isn't cold in the summer. The front wheel pops every time I turn it.Overall, too much money has been spent on this car. It's value is far less than the amount of money I've spent. I will never buy a Chevrolet again.

I bought my '99 Malibu new. Brakes need replacement every 8 months. The local Chevy dealer says they now only use third party replacement brakes instead of OEM Delco. Have had faulty manifold gasket replaced. Replaced both front hubs twice. Brake lines have rusted through and need replacement. Emergency brake cable rusted and failed. Right front coil spring broke and cut into the tire, similar to a previous post. Discovered today that the left rear coil spring is broken.

This is my first (and last) Chevy. I've only owned Toyotas before and they never had problems like the Malibu. Guess I'm spoiled.

I have owned the 99 chevy malibu for 8 years. I bought it used in 1999 for 12,500 (can't beat that) and it had 10,000 miles on it. It was probably a rental car.

Manifold/gasket fixed last year 2007 - $1,300, two alternators $800, air bag sensor light $900 - total $15,500 divided by 9 years =1,722 per year, not bad. To fix the light bulb issues, you need to drill holes on the bottom of the plastic cover on both tail lights and head ligts so that the water drains when it rains. That is what my GM mechanic did.

Would I buy another Malibu - probably not. Going with a used Honda Accord - less maintenance costs.

Malibu 99 V6.

A money pit, gasket, brakes, check engine light, engine running roughly, ABS failure... One word, rubbish!!

I have to say I have a 99 Chevy Malibu. I play around with my car a lot, I mistreat it a lot... and had not have any problem with it... I love my car, it's pretty good...

I spend some money on it but not cuz it needs it, but because I wanted it to look better. I modify it a lil bit, so yeah it's a good car... I bought the car 7 years ago and it's still running good, no leaks...

The only thing I do to it, that everyone probably does, is change the oil.

Breaks about once a year...

I think it's a good car...

I've been driving a 2005 Malibu V6 for almost 4 years & 131km, with not a single problem.

All of a sudden it's the front wheel bearing, PCV valve, and both front axle seals are leaking...!!! All with in a 3 week period.

I got everything done except for the wheel bearing problem. It's starting to shake pretty bad.

Anyone know the price or have any suggestions?

I have a 98 V6 Malibu, and as everyone mentions, I've had all the problems. I have input more money than investing.

I too own a 99 Chevy Malibu LS. My fuel gauge no longer works (after the warranty expired of course). I just replaced the motor for my heat to work and also my ignition cylinder. My right backlight has a problem with water getting into it. My passenger driver-side window is automatic, but has stopped working. And there is a rust spot that has built up over time underneath my gas tank on the body of the vehicle. Not happy with having to get all this stuff fixed.

P.s. GM, send the bail out money to moi!

Extreme negative performance by both Chevrolet Malibu as well certified GM technicians. Waste of time, money, energy, health, and trust with any of American... This reflects a pricey mess that cannot be cured.

Same trends as just about everyone else. 99' V6 Major coolant leak. AC hasn't worked for years. We just spent 700 for the wheel hubs and two weeks later 300 more for a new ignition cylinder when key wouldn't turn in ignition. Now a kids car and hoping just to get it through the winter of 09-10. Will cost a fortune in anti freeze come this winter!
