General comments?
The final year of the Lumina body style for the Monte Carlo. The 3800cc V6 powered Monte Carlo was the best engine of the lot that were offered in the series in my humble opinion.
The 3800 is a tried and proven engine for GM and at 200 hp with 225 foot lbs of torque for this model year it offers lots of power for the chassis and suspension. A very solid and heavy steering vehicle compared to later model cars of this class but remember this is essentially a 10 year old chassis by 1999.
My car is a Black on Black full load and when it is all shined up it looks great and turns heads at stop lights and filling stations. The car is very comfortable to ride in on long trips and if you are doing the speed limit on the highway it will give you incredible gas mileage, however if you want to plant your foot into the pedal the 3.8l will respond quickly but negatively at the gas pumps.
The notorious center console (plastic trash broken hinge) is one of the bad features in this car. The only mechanical failure I have had is the fuel pump however with the kilometers on the vehicle at the time that is not bad, however as an owner of a new fuel pump I make sure that there is at least 1/4 of a tank of gas in the vehicle at all times to aid in the cooling of the component.
