1996 Chevrolet Monte Carlo z34 review from North America
"Requires a certain type of owner and attention"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Purchased from a friend who kept blowing up transmissions in it.
Transmission was out when I bought it. If you abuse the trans on this car it will break quite easily.
$2300 at the shop for a new trans, did mine used for a grand along with a new water pump at the same time.
Have not had one problem with the trans sense then. Tune up at 113000 miles.
Console lid broke,
passenger side window quit working,
ac not working when I bought it,
I have a bad sensor for venting the fuel vapor from the charcoal can that needs to be fixed.
General comments?
This is a quick car, but it's not a top fuel dragster. If you launch hard off every stoplight the trans will break very soon.
Despite the above listed problems, this is an awesome car.
It has never failed to start for me in any weather condition.
Runs like a champ, has good power above 3,000rpm but not much low end.
The cost of labor is just stupid on this car.
Do the recommended owners manual maintenance on it and you will save a lot of money in the long run.
Overall I love it, but it needs to be designed better to keep repair labor cost down.
