The usual problems that are associated with G body cars. The steering column tilts by itself, and the quadrajet that came on the car is a piece of junk.
Also while I am complaining, putting a good stereo in was a waste of time for me. The sound does not transfer from the trunk (bass) no matter what I throw at it.
This is my street car. The original 305 didn't respond very well to modifications, so I decided to go farther... much farther. Currently running 406, iron heads, reed cam, ferrea valves, nitrous express plate kit, built th350, 3600 stall and auburn rear. Best 12.20 na, and 11.63@18 on bottle. But after 20k miles of street racing this body is starting to show its age. However as a testament to this cars likability, I will transplant all my stuff into another Monte Carlo when the time comes... and start again!
If you're having trouble with your stereo, you may want to start over, the most winning car in sound-off history is a Buick GN (yes another G-body) so I highly doubt it's the cars fault.
I have a 83 cutlass supreme with a 305 chevrolet engine in it and mine also has no power off the start. I was wondering which mods are the best to start with to gain sufficient power., I asked about a performance carburator, but I was told it wouldn't do much unless I had more horsepower in the first-place. ne ways any help would be great.
Try changing the gear ratio to at least 3.42. you probably have lame 2.29 gears.
Where can I get 3.42 gearing, what car carries it that will fit in my car?
I have a 3.42 posi carrier and a 3.73 posi carrier for a 7.5 inch G Body. is your car a conv? would love to see a picture of it. thanks. tom tommr@webtv.net.
I have an 83 Monte Carlo Convertible I bought brand new off the lot. It has 56K original miles on it and I'm trying to find out where I can get an honest price evaluation on it. I want to decide if I should try to keep it original or go with modifications, i.e. tufted leather interior, etc.
I also have a 1983 Monte Carlo convertible with 45k miles and am curious as to how many of these cars are still around.
I also have an 83 monte carlo convertible. i love the car.does anyone know what the roof locks were used on besides on montes also does anyone have a convertible monte carlo to sell.
Does anyone have a picture of the Monte Carlo convertible? I heard there are only 4-5 left in America that are drivable.
TThe 305 motor is not very powerful but a 342-373 gear change does help...As far as horsepower? Most people tend towards 350 crate motors with a 700r tranny conversion to get an extra gear and save gas on the highway... But these conversions cost.. So if you want to at least feel a little more get up out you motor you could get a rearend out of someones parted out 83-88 super sport and that should help a little... The 700r tranny swap also entails a drive-shaft modification... I myself have an original 83 monte carlo ss & it's the fifth monte carlo ss I've owned... I love them I'm running a performance vette motor & race built 700r trans...To the person with the sound problem(dyna
-mat) in trunk...
