What things have gone wrong with the car?
Replaced rear axle seal as it started to leak at 108,000 miles.
Replaced heater core when it started to leak at 134,000 miles.
Transmission rebuilt by previous owner at 100,000 miles.
Engine rebuilt at 105,000 miles by previous owner.
General comments?
Bought car from original owner and they provided ALL records for this car. All the records for this 1985 Monte fit into a slim manila folder! This car has been very reliable and it rides like a dream.
I have found a wealth of aftermarket parts for this car at great prices.
Most any mechanic can work on this car, no more having to search forever for a shop that can do the work.
Parts are cheap compared to newer and foreign cars. Many OEM Parts are still available through dealer.
Engine swap is quite simple on this car. If you need more power it won't cost you a fortune to drop in a larger engine.
LS didn't come with dual exhaust as a stock option... what a pity.
The T-tops on this car don't leak despite the fact that the seals are original and are cracked and worn.
Interior is very comfortable. Cloth interior is durable, but has faded over time due to UV damage.
With T-top option there is little light up front at night for reading maps and such. Solution is to add aftermarket rear view mirror with map lights.
