1995 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Z-34 review from North America

"Best car I have owned"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

The most reoccurring problem I have with the car is that the brakes need constant attention, but I do put allot of miles on the car so that is understandable.

I have replaces the transmission at 199,000 miles. I purchased a used transmission for $800. I have replaced the cam seals, all of them since it is impossible to know which seal is bad. That process requires a J-tool.

I have replaced the gaskets between the engine block and the cam boxes, again this requires the J-tool. When this occurred it leaked oil into the spark plug holes and resulted in having to replace the wires also, $85.

Current problems at 236,000 miles are a window motor passenger side I haven't priced out yet, a leak on the plenum gasket, which I believe is giving me a code on one of my solenoids. In the time I have owned the car I have roughly $950 in parts for repairs. Not counting the things that I haven't got too yet, such and the window motor and whether or not the solenoid pack needs to be replaced with I believe is around $140 for the pack.

General comments?

I really like the way this car drives, it is comfortable and roomy. It handles very nice once I replaced the Goodyear eagle tires, those had a tendency to hydro plane in the rain. The body has held up nice for the climate where I live and I am just starting to see signs of rust. The leather on the drivers seat has ripped, but that I can contribute to age and wear as the rest of the leather is just fine in the car. For the use I have had out of this car and the cost of maintaining the car I can say this is the best car I have ever owned.
