2000 Chevrolet S-10 LS review from North America
"I just ordered a new Toyota... sorry GM"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Both seat recliner handles snapped off as soon as I bought the truck.
Intake manifold gasket blew at 90,000 miles. This was a very expensive repair.
Bed isn't properly aligned and rests lower to the drivers side.
Passenger seat doesn't lock into position so whoever sits there gets a nice roller coaster / slide effect.
Fuel gage stopped working at 60,000 miles. Talked to the mechanic and he said it's very common in S-10's. $800 to fix it. I just reset the odometer.
Stop check valve in the transmission valve body became warped and caused a hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear. This was yet another costly repair.
Replaced the handle for the 3rd door countless times. This cheap piece of plastic is $35 a pop at the dealer.
Doesn't disengage properly from 4 wheel drive so you get a nice ear piercing grinding sound from the front wheel at about 55mph if you don't know the trick to get it out of 4 wheel drive.
Ball joints are worn and make a loud popping sound during sharp turns.
Interior is cheap and uncomfortable.
Both front hub bearings went out (one at 60,000 the other at 80,000) Chevy doesn't sell bearings. You have to buy the entire hub assembly for $130.
General comments?
Despite all the repairs it has always gotten me to where I was going. The A/C will freeze you to death and the heater will melt your shoe laces.
I bought this truck after owning a Jeep that needed constant repair. I was banking on good old American reliability and craftsmanship. Boy was I let down. I can honestly say that during my ownership of this truck there never was a time that something wasn't in need of repair or replacement.
