1998 Chevrolet S-10 Super Sport review from North America
"Reliable, but not the best build-quality"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Check Engine light came on at 13,000 miles. Eventually went off.
Alternator went out at 60,000 miles.
Water pump went out at 80,000 miles.
Rear drum brakes started leaking... front brakes started binding and destroyed the rotors. $700.00 in brake work at 90,000 miles.
When I first got it, the headlights would turn themselves off for no reason... this wasn't good when I was driving at night.
Windshield wipers will work sometimes... other times they won't even come on.
Reclining lever for the driver's seat broke off around 30,000 miles.
Grinding sound when the wheels are turned all the way to the right or to the left... dealer worked on it, but did not fix it.
General comments?
Overall, it's been a decent and reliable little truck. The ZQ8 suspension on the SS package gives it some great handling. The engine and transmission have been ROCK SOLID the entire time I've owned this truck. The rest of it, though, leaves much to be desired. The build quality on these trucks is really bad. I have to turn my radio up pretty loudly to drown out all the squeaks and rattles.
