1992 Chevrolet S-10 Short bed review from North America

"A reliable truck that is more truck than it seems."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

A valve in the engine got sucked in when I came off the free way. $500 to fix.

Muffler has some huge holes in it, but that is only about $100 for a new one.

Seat has tears in the drivers side.

Headlights died and had to be replaced, but only cost $15.

3rd gear seems a little worn.

Reverse sometimes has to be jammed in, or I have to take the clutch out half way and try again.

Vent went out.

Heater only works on defrost and floor no matter what you set it to.

Heater use to make a hissing sound from in the controls, found a loose tube that I could not figure out where it went.

Had a loose ground and a wire that got rested on the engine and was causing the engine to short out. Though I do not believe this was Chevy's fault, the person before me tried to install his tape player in without knowing what he was doing at all.

Paint on part of the side bed and the whole front has lost its shiny coat and turns an orange-red if I don't keep it waxed.

Decals on the tail gate have worn.

Paint has chipped on the wheels, and there are some small rust spots on it.

Weather stripping on drivers side window has come out, and the stripping around the door has come loose.

Windshield whippers arms need to be replaced, only about $15.

General comments?

I know I seemed to of listed a lot of problems, but in all honesty this truck is very reliable.

It can be a very quick truck if you spend some time getting use to it. I don't have power steering it in, but it drives fine without it.

For a small truck, it is amazing. I highly recommend it for a first time driver.

The only cons I can see with it is the seating and size. I'm a fairly big guy, and driving around for a few hours in this truck really seems to pull my back and shoulders out of place to the point of really hurting. It might do better with some bucket seats over a bench.

If you live where it snows a lot, make sure you get one in 4x4, it takes some serious driving skills to drive a S-10 in 2 wheel drive on snow (especially with no weight in the back). It can cause some very frustrating moments at stop signs when you try to move and find you only spin in place. Weight, a lot of weight, in the back is a MUST in the winter.

Only reason I will ever sell this truck is because I need something I can move large pieces of my work around in, in a foot of snow all day long.

It truly is a great truck, very reliable, just a little small for really big guys.
