1988 Chevrolet S-10 review from North America
"Great little toy that is cheap on gas and fun to play around with"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Rust has been the main issue. The exterior of the car looks spotless, however the under undercarriage is hideous. The floor of the bed of the truck has rusted out almost completely. The Cab mounts and floor boards of the cab have also rusted out.
The rust on the cab mounts has caused the truck to sink down and rest on the frame, making the doors not close properly.
My electrical system is also a disaster. The instrument panel lights won't turn on, except for the turn signal indicators and emergency break light that constantly stay on. The gas meter also reads empty continuously.
General comments?
I loved the power this 2.5L engine has. It is very quick and powerful for a four cylinder car/truck.
Has amazing exceleration!!
There are no preformance upgrades done to the truck yet it purrs like music to my ears.
I really enjoy the bench seat, although some people find them uncomfortable.
Really good on fuel.
The rear wheel drive combined with it being standard makes it a lot of fun to toy around with (burn-outs, etc.).
One major downfall is winter driving. This truck is strictly a summer or warm climate car. It cannot handle what so ever in the snow. Even with as little as an inch of snow, the car fish-tails, slides, and gets no traction what so ever.
My second major complaint would be its top speed. It is amazing for inner city driving, but there is not enough power to let loose on the highway and such. car only tops out around 135km/h. Can become frustrating/embarrassing when trying to pass 18-wheelers and so on.
