Buyer beware - SIMPLY PUT STAY AWAY FROM THEM.
I purchased my truck in Feb 2006, within a month, the ABS light came on and passenger window switches failed. Shortly thereafter, I noticed the quirks with the CD stereo, constantly skipping before blaming the truck CD player, I cleaned all the CD's in my collection with a readily available cleaning kit an then I used an automotive CD cleaner kit. After that a mysterious clunk started in the general area of the driver side front end. I say general area as the noise comes and goes intermittently and is very hard to pinpoint. Found an antifreeze leak, replaced a headlight and now the headlights don't align properly (this is a simple fix with the standard 9006 bulb, no adjustment involved, simply no reason for alignment problem)
I have to say as much fun as this truck is to drive it just isn't worth the hassle, after driving a 1997 K1500 for 206K w/o this many headaches.
I HAVE ALWAYS CONSIDERED MYSELF A CHEVY DIE HARD AND HAVE GOTTEN INTO HEATED DEBATES OVER THE CHEVY/FORD THING, but EVEN I AM CONSIDERING THE "F" WORD NOW - CHEVY??? NOPE NEVER AGAIN!!!
I will also be dumping this truck as soon as I can.
Instrument panel/console were well configured.
ZR-2 appearance package is a poor attempt at mimicking the ZR-5 off-road truck - if I want an off-road truck I want an off-road truck, not the cosmetics.
Sharp looking truck, that is fun to drive aside from the mechanical headaches.
Feels like I "got taken for a ride" when I bought this truck
Buy a full size offroad 4x4 chevy next time instead of condemning a whole brand based on one truck you had. The S10s are notorius for having crappy peripheals, but usually have a solid motor and driveline.
Having bought a new S-10 in April '03 I am so far well pleased. My only regret to date is that I chose a straight cab instead of an extended cab. There is simply no room in this size truck to put anything, especially if there is a passenger. The gas mileage is excellent. The ride is somewhat like a stage coach I suppose. Handling is very good. I have several friends who own S-10s and they all love them. The little 4-cyl Vor-Tech engine is bullet proof. The Colorado is probably my next choice.
100 bucks the intermittent clunking from the front is a lower ball joint. You said ZR2 right? Widestance = hard work on the IFS. Do preventative maintenance, all vehicles suck without it eventually.
