"A tough, reliable truck"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Fuel pressure regulator went out at 89000 miles.
Various electrical components are starting to fail.
Black interior is starting to fade.
Uses large quantities of oil.
Sticky throttle.
General comments?
This truck despite the problems has been a reliable vehicle for me. The first problem I had with it was rough idling and frequent stallings which began after the first few months of ownership. I took it to a mechanic and they said it was probably the fuel pressure regulator or the fuel pump. Well I decided to go the cheaper route and bought the regulator and installed it myself and that cured the problem.
One other problem I have is excessive oil consumption. I found it rather odd that 2000 miles after an oil change the check oil level light would come on. I checked the oil and there was barely any oil to be seen on the dipstick. I thought it strange because it doesn't leak, so I assume it's consuming it. I'm hoping it's not something serious, but for now I just add a quart every 1000 miles and that keeps the light off.
The adequate power of the 5.3 engine with the smooth shifting tranny make for a nice combination.
The stiff Z71 suspension package makes for a rough ride on and off the road.
