1987 Chevrolet Sprint review from North America
"The car is a great bargain, reliable and easy on gas"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The front brake pads and rotors were low when we got the car.
We put a left front ball-joint on the car.
The carpet has a rip in it.
We replaced a wheel bearing.
We installed a new battery.
General comments?
In the beginning of the year 2000 my girlfriend was just getting out of highschool and decided she wanted to buy herself a car. A little disagreeable on the choice she made I went with her to look at a 1987 Chevrolet Sprint. When we got to the place where the car was I started to look it over. I looked underneith the vehicle and to my surprise there was no rust so I decided to examine the rest of the vehicle. After looking at the car for about 10 minutes I decided to take it for a ride and to my surprise the car had a very good source of power even though it only had a 1.0 3-cylinder engine, so I decided to get the car for her. Also to my surprise the lady who was selling the car only wanted 100 dollars so I figured there was something seroiusly wrong with it. Then I asked the owner if she would take 50 for it and without any hesitation she said "OK I just want to get rid of the piece of junk anyway". So we got the car.
Well my girlfriend drove it for about 2 months and in that time we put front pads and rotors, a balljoint and a wheelbearing into it and I did the work myself so it was only about 150 dollars in parts so I figured that 200 dollars was not bad for a reliable car. Well like I said before she drove it for about 2 months and at the time I was putting more and more miles on my classic, 1977 Blazer (which has a 400 smallblock). So I figured to save me wear and tear on the Blazer and not to mention the gas money I would save, I decided to run the Sprint back and forth to work.
Well it is now the fourth month of 2001 and the Sprint has never let me down. The car runs me to work and back for an easy 7 dollars a week in gas and the only other thing I had to replace in it was the battery. I plan to give the car a complete cosmetic makeover in the future such as: chrome wheels with low pro tires, ground effects and a rear spoiler. This is definitely one of the best cars I ever bought and I really don't think I would sell it.
