This truck has been in the shop over a dozen times in it's first year when I purchased it new. Numerous electrical problems such as the main computer replacement, autoride malfunction, and various computer related problems.
A steering poping noise resulted in the replacement (manf. recall) of the steering knuckle.
At just 8k miles the front end had badly worn the front tires on the inside tread. I can only assume the alianment was correct from the factory.
At 21K miles the brakes began to fade and when braking hard the pedal would pulse. The dealer said the rotors we're warped and resurfaced them at no charge.
The left rear door now 'sticks' to the point my kids cannot open nor close the door without assistance... back to service dept soon to get this fixed.
We purchased this vehicle for its size and room. With three kids it's the perfect size for carrying everyone along with plenty of luggage room.
The interior has held up well after the first year. No complaints.
This vehicle has had too many service issues for a brand new vehicle. It is driven primarily by my wife around town. So it is not getting abused.
I would think twice about getting another Surburban because of all the serivce issues I've had with this truck.
I also have a Chevy Suburban. We will be trading it in for a different vehicle soon. We have also had numerous problems and have spent over $3000 in repairs to this vehicle. It's a 2001. You would expect a vehicle that new and that expensive to be perfect (or at least a lot closer to it!!!). Lynn in Michigan.
I have a 2000 suburban with it's own list of issues
1. power steering pump replacement at 30K
2. Rear windows - both motors failed at different times (barely used at all)
3. Horn motors blew (horn no longer works and again barely used)
4. transmission won't shift into overdrive (85K). Contacted another forum who said that many suburbans need new transmissions around 40K and I should feel lucky.
5. radio turns off and resets time to 1:00 about every other minute.
All in all a nice truck for $40,000 and $6,000 every 3 years in repairs. NOT!!!
Have a 2001 Suburban. it was an expensive vehicle and I expected the overall quality to be excellent. It was not. The factory front tires (Firestone's Wilderness) wore so badly that they were replaced - at my expense - at 27000 miles. The transmission failed to go into any gear at 24000 miles while my wife was driving through the neighborhood - this car has NEVER been off-road or exposed to hard driving conditions. Transmission rebuilt under warranty at 24000 miles - thank God! One of the rear seat power windows simply stopped operating, and it never got much usage - repaired under warranty. Has an unstable idle that seems like the car will stall when stopped at red lights with the AC running - this has not been resolved yet. The radio power light has never lit up when the radio is turned on, and the Speed Compensated Volume feature does not work, and the two of the radio buttons literally stick in the depressed condition, and require continues pressing to get them unstuck. This is the next warranty item the car will be taken back to the dealer for.
Overall, this product is a big disappointment from a quality/reliability standpoint. I would not consider Chevrolet ever again.

I have a 2001 Suburban. I love my Suburban, but have had many problems with it in the 3 years I have owned it.
The front end has been aligned 3 times and it still pulls to the left.
The fuel pump went out while I was on the Highway going 70 miles an hour with my kids in the car, the car shut off and I had to coast to the right shoulder and wait for help. While they fixed this under the warranty they made me pay for cleaning the injectors and other parts claiming that just wasn't covered and it needed to be done. I now replace my fuel filter every 6000 miles, they say I don't need to, but when you hear a high pitch noise it's your fuel pump fixing to go out.
I have had the Knock Sensors go out which causes a lot of clattering when you lightly step on gas.
I have had the Master Cylinder to the brakes replaced for leaking the brake fluid.
I have had the Steering Shaft repacked with grease. The shaft over time works the grease out and this has to be done. It is back in the shop today for the same reason. They tried to make me pay for this claiming my warranty is up, but I explained this was a reoccurring problem and they are fixing it at their expense.
I also have a knocking in the front end just below my feet. They said it is a cross bar that has been cut wrong. Apparently there are slot cut into the bar that weren't cut deep enough therefor there is a popping and knocking when you turn. They will not fix this because my car is no longer under warranty-- Even though they never cut it correctly in the first place and knew they didn't.
Still working to resolve this issue.
The passenger door sticks real bad and need to be regreased. Has never worked properly.
The driver side visor sticks so bad you can hardly move it.
The back brake light cover keeps popping off at the bottom and has to be bumped on a daily basis.
The antenna keeps coming unscrewed, won't stay screwed in.

I am disappointed that these people are having so many problems with their suburban... Knock on Wood... i bought mine used with 34,000 miles on it already... i now have 56,000 unblemished miles on it..
This vehicle has been everything we could ask for as a family...reliable, comfort, space, and attractive.
As long as we have our kids until they move on... i will always find a way to drive a suburban... to me its the cadillac of the road... and always will be. my wife drives like A.J.Foyt and I know this vehicle takes a beating all the time.. She really loves it and feels very safe.
Buttttttt...We have developed a problem... Last week I took it to wal-mart to have the tires rotated... a day or two after rotation we noticed a slight popping while driving coming from the steering wheel... the problem has gotten more noticeable and now I am going to set up an appointment with my chevy dealer to check it out. I really hope it is something that will be fixed easily and not too expensively... if it is the steering knuckle.. maybe they will replace it for free... or maybe wal-mart didn't secure something?? who knows there...anyway...we are very pleased with this vehicle as of now... i plan on driving the wheels off this suburban... HaHa!!
