1995 Chevrolet Suburban 2500 LS Heavy Half from North America - Comments

"A great truck for your money that loves to drive!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Just one - It is a long story, but basically the left rear drum brake would stick because the drum could not be turned again when I got the brakes done and the circumference of the drum wasn't true all around so when you'd back up the brake would grab and the automatic brake setter would turn all the way out. This problem can be resolved by buying a new drum, but since I want to buy two new drums and the right one isn't ready to replace yet, I just removed the automatic brake setter. All that means is I have t set the brakes up manually every so kilometers.

Other than that, absolutely nothing has gone wrong.

General comments?

Since a Suburban has been in my family since I was able to drive I naturally love it. This one I have now is no different. And with a 29 foot travel trailer this truck pulls it like a dream. The diesel performs well in all weather conditions and is very reliable. It also pays for itself in fuel costs because where I live gasoline is 85.9 cents/liter. Diesel is getting up there also, at 70.9 cents/liter, but it is still cheaper.

For the performance part, I marked this truck on how well is drives, how it pulls my trailer. I really don't expect the diesel engine to torque from a stand still, but even when I do that I can get it going really good. And for pulling a trailer with a large family and piles of luggage there is nothing better. Reliability is great, even with the 202000 kilometers on the truck, the diesel runs like it is brand new. And the body, because I bought the truck from a farmer, is in premium condition. There are no scratches, rust spots, rattles. Also because this truck was an LS it was really basic so I installed several components very easily and it a low cost. Taking the dash and similar things apart is a snap, and so far I've never broken anything like I usually do. I've never ever had to deal with a dealer so I can't really give them a mark. One down part of the truck it is not a city vehicle by any means, it is really heavy (3 quarter ton chassis) but on the highway nothing else offers as much safety, reliability, value, and economy as a Suburban. Great truck for your money!

I am from Norway and apologize if my spelling is bad. I own a Suburban 1996 K1500 6.5 diesel and I am surprised to read you have had no problems with the injection system. I have replaced the whole pump in 2000, and replaced the Stanadyne controller this spring. All under extended GM warranty, so this is a well known problem for the maker also. You are lucky... 8)
