Intake manifold was leaking.
Heater hose connection leaking and broke trying to take it out.
Intake manifold was leaking the day I got it. replaced it, started leaking again.
Heater hose connection was leaking, tried to replace it it broke. This engineering at it's worse, very little cross section on the body of tread.
I like the roominess and seats and look, but this is a poorly engineered product.
Keep in mind that this is a used car and that you have no idea how it was taken care before you bought it. I am not a GM guy, but know several people who got well over 200,000 miles of these trucks without much trouble, I think being that you had a toyota you just wanted to hate a domestic truck.
I think that the review is accurate, and the headline sums up how a rapidly increasing number of people feel about GM's poor products.
My 98 tahoe had the same issue, as well as three of my friends with Tahoe's or suburban's with the same engine. Vortec intake manifold gasket design is poor, another 1/4 inch of gasket surface area would resolve the issue. Vortec 5.7's tend to leak between 60,000 and 80,000 miles, also plan on replacing leaky oil cooler lines with cheezy nylon fittings instead of threaded fittings. Interior drivers side door handle cast from cheap pot metal broke around 70,000 miles. When I went in to the dealership to buy one I explained what had broke the guy reached back on to a shelf (without even getting out of his seat) and pulled one off a stack. I said, 'you must go through a few of these?' he replied, "That's why we keep them right here". I got a simular response when I went to pick up oil cooler lines to replace the leaking originals at 75,000 miles. If yours leak and you plan on keeping your truck, do yourself a favor and replace them with Braided Steel lines and NPT fittings. Tahoe tech forum boards are chock full of people with the same experiences. GM quality control and engineering has gone to crap. I own 4 chevrolets manufactrured between 1967 and 1998 and have had more problems with the 98 tahoe than the other three put together. This tahoe is the last NEWER GM product I'll ever own. I hate to say it, but there's a reason Toyota is #1 now, GM doesn't care about engineering short comings as long as thier product lives past the warranty and they can sell replacement parts.
