1999 Chevrolet Tracker 4X4 review from North America
"Excellent Engine performance, Poor A/C unit and construction of interior"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
There has been a problem with the A/C cooling from the day we purchased the car. We contacted the previous owners and they said the A/C had never cooled the way "normal" cars do. We took the car to the dealership and they checked the temperature of the air that the vents were putting out and told us it was normal and that all of the Trackers cooled this way. During the summer, this car does not get driven because it does not cool at all unless you live in the North Pole.
General comments?
Other than the lack of an A/C cooling system, the car is probably the most reliable car I have ever owned. I purchased it at around 18000 miles and still have it at 140,000 miles, and the only maintenanceI have done is general maintenance like oil changes, plug changes, filters, and other things that are expected. I think it is very reliable because the engine is a Suzuki engine and the car is a Chevrolet. Some of the minor things that deserve mention include the poor construction of the interior. The seats feel like you are sitting on milk crates, the air vents are broken out for no reason other than they are made of such thin plastic, and most of the lights built-in to the transmission shifter and the radio as well as the instruments have burned out. As far as the engine, it has been excellent up to this point and it is a very reliable car as long as you do not have hot days in the summer.
