2002 Chevrolet TrailBlazer XLT review from North America

"I like the car, but.."

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Replaced thermostat at 30,000 miles.

Replaced front tires at 30,000 miles.

Replaced 4 wheel drive solenoid at 25,000 miles.

Replaced fan clutch at 50,000 miles.

General comments?

Same trouble with the fan clutch as everybody else. My testimony should help any body that reads it before they have this part replaced on their vehicle.

I took the Trailblazer to my local dealer's service department to diagnose the loud noise coming from the engine compartment. He called me approx. 1 hour later and informed me that the fan clutch was partially locked up and that it must be replaced. He also informed me that the cost would be $767.00. I at that time contacted several other garages and got several different quotes ranging from $400 to $800. Due to my frustration, I contacted the dealer that had my vehicle and told him to make the repairs and that I would pick the vehicle up the next day. I then went online and found this web site.

After reading about the reimbursements that some had gotten and how much trouble it was to get reimbursed, I decided to contact GM before I paid for the repairs. After explaining the situation to the customer service agent, she contacted the dealership that had my vehicle, arranged a conference call between the three of us and we came to the agreement that I would pay only for the labor and GM would pick up the bill for the parts. So, the price of repair went from $767.00 to $312.00.

Moral of the story, "It Pays to get smart before you pay high dollar for repairs on your auto". Hope this helps.
