2000 Chevrolet Venture standard pkg review from North America
"Best investment I've ever made, a car and truck all in one."
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Motor was replaced by 2nd owner around 50,000 miles in '03.
Both rear cylinders were replaced after 2 weeks of us owning in Mar '04, a front one was replaced in May '06.
Replaced front brakes in May '06.
Replacement engine is shot - needs rebuilt.
Torque converter starting going out in Mar '06 - no drive, must run in 3rd gear or no go - needs replacing.
Transmission is now slipping, needs replacing - Sept. '06.
Catalytic converter went out in May '06.
Overheating, replaced thermstat in july '06.
Muffler is going out now.
Drivers side power window falls going up.
PS power mirror won't move since bought.
Driver side sliding door won't close fully due to adjustment needed - keep locked (8/06).
Struts and shocks are shot - too much hauling mowers (8/06).
General comments?
Even with the van now falling apart, she can't be faulted or beat.
Very strong vehicle.
For last 2 yrs had hauled family and equipment.
Handles curves with no slipping or squealing.
Heater will crank.
Excellent a/c.
Seats 7 comfortably even if you're 6'4".
I can do 0-60 in 8 sec. in 1/8 mile - no lie had her timed.
Great cargo room once seats are removed.
You can fit a 20HP riding mower, 46" cut (deck on) in rear with back 4 seats removed.
It might the replacement engine is very strong, but the torque converter and transmission seem underpowered.
We have a 2002 Dodge Ram Quad Cab 1500 4X4 and this Venture out maneuvers it in the curves at same speeds.
Interior has no signs of wear and she's used like a work truck hauling things.
The torque converter and transmission are getting replaced, but the engine will get rebuilt.
She stops on a dime.
Has no body roll.
The Venture is like having a sport car and a P/U combined.
At present, everything is original except the front brakes, engine, and 3/4 brake cylinders.
Suspension was excellent until this summer, but do you expect after hauling 700/800 lb mowers every wk over the last 18 months.
