1999 Chrysler 300M review from North America
"I've enjoyed this car so much I would buy another one if I got a deal on it"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
Transmission module replaced under warranty (normally about a $150 repair). This occurred at about 18,000 miles. An electric window motor also quit functioning properly and was replaced under warranty at about this time too.
Air-conditioning condenser in the dash-board had to be replaced. Approx. $1,000. Everything else in the air-conditioning system has been fine. This occured at about 69,000 miles.
The transmission had to be rebuilt, it quit functioning properly. I'd always maintained it frequently and used the proper Mopar fluid, hoping to get it to last beyond 100,000 miles, but I guess that just wasn't to be. This occured at about 76,000 miles and cost me approx. $1,875.
General comments?
I love this car and so does my wife. It hasn't been as trouble-free as some of my past cars, specifically Toyota's, but I like it anyway.
The 3.5L engine is a real performance machine, and can still get about 28MPG if I take it easy on the interstate. I think this engine can get to about 200,000 miles without major repairs (I hope, I hope).
Looks - I still today think the 300M is the best looking car on the road. Even after owning it all these years.
And of course the 300M handles wonderfully. Since mine has the performance suspension, it is a bit rougher riding than the standard suspension, but we don't find it objectionable.
