1992 Chrysler Fifth Avenue NewYorker 5th Avenue review from North America
"Absolutely Phenomenal American Automobile"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
At the time of purchase the car had a "miss" that turned out to be a valve problem.
At 140,000 miles the transmission failed and was replaced with a factory re-manufactured unit.
141,500 miles must of ran the window up and down too many times, now the passenger front window drive cable/belt is broke, common problem in the Chrysler window lift system. Pricey repair estimated at $400.00.
142,000 miles the water pump failed and the bolt broke off in the block. Darn it anyway, but common they say. did not replace the bolt, the car is fine with out it.
158,000 miles the air conditioner condenser popped a small hole and leaked all the freon out. Needs a condenser still. Not using air for now anyway.
At 156,000 miles the entire rear brake system needed replaced, probably from my neglect of good maintenance practices and hard driving.
At 160,000 miles the transmission had a "hard part" failure that may have been a weak link in the re-man trans. not a big deal to me it was still covered by the excellent factory reman warranty.
General comments?
This car has been the finest automobile I have ever owned. I have many cars, new and used this has the best quality of a car I have owned. Paint, interior and power train have met my expectations for a high quality car that has class. This car makes a statement when seen, and when carrying new passengers. Definitely a vehicle that can make an astounding impression to anyone. The engine responds very good. The air suspension is wonderful and has been no trouble at all.
