2000 Chrysler Intrepid LH review from North America
"Really nice looking car, unfortunate that it has engine problems"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
The engine blew at 44768 miles, due to sludgy oil.
General comments?
I am an employee of one of Chrysler's sub-assembly plants and know that there were problems with these motors from the start. We had many a day where there was a lot of down time due to problems with the motors. My understanding is that there was a crack in the head and all fluids were drained, crack was repaired, fluids added again and the engines were sold as new. I am an Intrepid owner and have had my engine blow on me with my children in the car, crying in the back-seat cause they didn't know what was going on. We did the oil changes every 3 months, but unfortunately for us I didn't keep my receipts proving this fact. We were 3 months past warranty and had a grand total of 44768 miles on our car when we had to drop a new block in it. Working for a company that is so closely affiliated with Chrysler the big bosses at my plant contacted their people at Chrysler to see what they could do for me. Well did you know that this problem is caused by our being lazy and not looking after our cars for their scheduled maintenance. I'd like to know why so many people have had to replace their motors from the exact same problems. You trying to tell me that we all forgot to change our oil month after month, I don't think so. So the money we saved with my employee discount went out the window when we dropped the new block in the car. I have always bought Chrysler products in the past and will continue to do so in the future, ONLY BECAUSE OF MY DISCOUNT. This time I will just make sure I don't purchase one that I know may have problems.
