1990 Chrysler LeBaron GT coupe review from North America

"Couldn't ask for a better first car for my daughter. It was very good to her!!!"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

This car was my daughter's first car. Lucky spoiled brat!!! It was loaded with every option except the convertible top. My first car had an auto trans, AM radio and heater. The only problems we had were a dead battery and a fuel pressure regulator, which caused the engine to flood at times. All maint. was brought up to date and it was a very good running vehicle. The only other problem was a pretty bad oil leak at the front cam seals. My daughter did a good job of quenching it's thirst for oil. I was very proud of her efforts in taking care of this car, especially since this was her first. Ironically, the person that bought it (an adult in his 40s) ran it out of oil about 4 weeks after he had it. Seems like my 18 year old daughter is more responsible with a car than a 40+ year old man. Oh well, his loss.

General comments?

When I bought this for my daughter, I was jealous. At the time I was driving an 88 Daytona (nice car, but was in desperate need of a paint job) and an 89 Omni. Ditto on the Omni's paint. My wife and I now have his and hers LeBaron rag tops. In fact the wheels from the 90 were donated to my wife's 92. My daughter loved the car and was really happy with the power of the V6. After driving it for a year, she gave it back to me and bought herself a 2003 Hyundai Tiburon. Being used to the V6 power, she wouldn't settle for the 4 cyl. Her Tiburon is a GTV6 model with an auto trans. My wife and I drove the 90 LeBaron for about a month, but with already having 2 other LeBarons and a 91 Caravan we decided that 3 vehicles was enough. We swapped rims (her 92 had 14" steel wheels with ugly wire wheel covers and the 90 had 15" aluminum white "wire basket" rims). We then sold it dirt cheap. If I would have known that the buyer was going to "burn up the engine" we would have kept it. I hate to see a good car go to waste.
