Steering rack replaced (twice).
Transmission replaced.
Engine replaced.
Rear side power windows broke.
Power steering hoses replaced.
Radiator replaced.
Oh... and there's more!
All by only 106K.
This was my 2nd LeBaron.
My first was an 86 GTS turbo.
That was a nightmare after 80K.
I'm not giving Chrysler any more chances.
I would like to say that if regular maintenance is performed on the 1989 Chrysler LeBaron, no problems should have been encountered! I am an original owner of a 1989 2.5L non turbo convertible. Other than brake problems, it has run perfectly for over 60,000 miles. I have changed oil every 3000 miles, and serviced it as necessary. I would highly recommend it as a used car.
Honestly, I have never heard of any car working that bad, not to say there isn't any, but I know for a fact that Chrysler 2.2 and 2.5 cars are a good quality, long lasting peice of equipment if taken care of.
Regarding your unreliability, you unfortnately got one which just wants to die. the chrysler 2.2 engine has more combined miles then any other gasoline engine in the world and their turbo motors are also just as reliable, chrysler built over 2 million turbo 2.2 motors (more than all other turbo gasoline engines in the world combined) I have a 1987 LeBaron GTS with 185,000 miles (lots of miles) I replaced some hoses timing belt and head gasket and it runs great with original engine and turbo (running mobil 1 supersyn and puralator pureone filters), it all goes to show you that a car will last as long as you want it to if you actually properly maintain it. especially a chrysler.
I have to agree with these people. Chrysler vehicles with the 2.2L and 2.5L 4cyl. engines are very reliable cars. I had a '92 Plymouth Acclaim with the 2.5L and it lasted 182k miles until it was totaled in an accident. I currently have an '89 Lebaron coupe with the same 2.5L engine. The odometer reads 148k miles, but it doesn't work and God only knows how many miles the car actually has! However, most Lebarons were equipped with the piece-of-junk Mitsubishi 3.0L V6 engine and unreliable 4-speed automatic tranny. Had most Lebarons been equipped with the 2.2L and 2.5L engines, they would have a MUCH better reputation.
I have owned 2 LeBarons and they were unreliable pieces of crap. My friend has one, and it is constantly needing repaired, and my uncle had one, until it finally needed so many repairs that it was no longer economical to continue using. I always kept up on the maintenance of the car, but it always crapped out at some of the most inconvenient times. I will now only drive GM cars, as they are tanks. I bought a 1982 Olds Delta 88 after the second LeBaron died, and I drove it to nearly 300,000 miles, until a garbage truck attempted to drive over my car. I now have a 1993 Buick Regal with 250,000 miles, and it is awesome. Original engine, original transmission, everything looks great and runs like new, doesn't burn or drip anything, and the only things replaced on the car were brakes, tires, and oil. I would recommend a GM over a Chrysler product any day.
