2006 Chrysler Sebring Convertible Touring review from North America
"Should have bought one years ago"
What things have gone wrong with the car?
I've only had it for a month, but it's been absolutely trouble free.
General comments?
Okay, so I've always wanted a convertible. I actually rented two convertibles in the last year so I could decide if I really wanted one or it was a passing fancy. The first rental was a 2006 Mustang convertible. Nice car, but old body style. It was fun, but the back seat was really small and anybody that rode with us complained. So I went back and rented another one. This was a 2008 Chrysler Sebring. What a car. Roomy and fun to drive. However, two things in particular that I disliked about the 2008 was the top folds into the trunk. It's a rather complicated piece of work and looks like a future nightmare if anything goes wrong. The car looks GREAT with the top down since all the mechanism is hidden. However, the trunk-space disappears when the top is down. Forget hopping in a 2008 with a few pieces of luggage and the top down. Also, the door panels were very "plasticky" and cheap looking. So... we decided to look for a used model.
We found a 1 year old 2006 (I discovered they didn't make a 2007 Sebring because of the redesign) that was a former lease vehicle with 14,000 miles on the clock. Bought the car for about 3 grand under NADA retail, so I feel like I got a great deal.
I love this car. It's an absolute BLAST to drive. Top goes up and down easily, controls are well laid out, everything works as it should. I especially like the Sirius radio in this model. Mine has the cloth top which is MUCH nicer looking than the vinyl top, but has the cloth seats (I would have preferred leather) but couldn't locate one with a cloth top AND leather interior. It seems you get one or the other.
I read some of the professional reviews on this car where they fussed about body flex, squeaks, etc. I have no idea what they are talking about. I've driven this car 90% of the time with the top down, and I don't feel any body flex and it rides solid as a rock. No squeaks either (yet). Fit and finish is as good as I'd expect--nothing to complain about. Engine is PLENTY powerful--can't imagine needing any more than this car can give. Put the top up, and it just ain't as fun to drive.
Drive this car and you'll have a grin on your face--I promise. It's just a fun car.
