1997 Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXi from North America - Comments

"A fast and sleek looking V6 dream"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

Car horn stopped working after 100,000km. Defect is caused by positioning of horn which rusts when driven in wet weather. Avoid by reversing horn position. Reduces horn sound, but it won't rust.

17 inch Rims bend easily, and are expensive to replace. Avoid potholes at all costs.

Warning light for engine was on and off for first 60,000 km, then turned off and hasn't come back.

Electrical problems with lighting behind climate control consistent and doesn't go away.

Interior light above drivers seat stopped working at 128,000 km.

Factory tires are poor and wear quickly. Replaced with better low profile hard rubber tires, no problems since.

General comments?

No major problems with a car that looks incredibly hot and handles amazingly.

I've spun out on the highway at very high speeds, and have to say the low profile and aggressive stance saved my life. This car simply doesn't flip.

The cars engine is built by Mitsubishi not Chrysler.

This is a car you'll fall in love with.

I agree with you I love my lxi, and I have had the same problem with the horn. I drove all winter without a horn I only had this problem when it was really cold when the weather warmed up the horn returned to normal I didn't have to relocate it other than that I am still loving my sebring.

I own a LXI myself, my first car. Love it, but already replaced 2 rims on pothole and 2 tires at $200 each! That's $400 since I got it in Dec!Besides that no problems, but engine light going on and off. Awesome sound system, but bad speakers. Juli.

I am buying a 1997 seabring lxi. It has 84,000 miles on it.. not many problems with it at all. I've seen all the paper work and my co-worker explained all the problems. He was having the same issue with the check engine light... The problem is, is that seabrings have a sensor in the gas tank. If the cap is loose... the tank looses air and when the air goes away pressure builds off setting off the check engine light. You just have to have the gas cap really tight. He found this out by calling the dealership. The car has a mitsubishi motor in it as well and still under factory warranty. Very cool car, rides wonderful, and handling is insane. I'm buying some chrome rims and getting fat tires on it.
