1996 Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXi review from Netherlands

"A nice looking car, but nothing of substance"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

In the first 20,000 miles, the rear bearing went out, the radio stopped accepting CDs, and the front brakes had to be replaced.

General comments?

Although a pretty car, the dealer service has been nothing short of scandalous. The broken bearing was repaired under the warranty, but the dealer refused to do anything about the radio. The car was one year into the warranty with 25,000 miles on it. There is a TSB that advises that "RAZ" code radios can be defective in that they will not load a CD. When I brought the car in for the 25,000 mile check, I asked the dealer to repair or replace the radio. The dealer advised me of the TSB and told me to go to Mitsubishi to have the radio repaired. Mitsubishi refused to do anything. I went back to the dealer who agreed that the radio should be replaced under the warranty. I still had one year to go on the warranty. I waited for almost one year. Just before the warranty was due to expire, my wife went to the dealer and inquired about the radio. The dealer said that she was supposed to deal directly with Chrysler. My wife disagreed. The dealer replied that since the warranty was due to expire in one week, there was nothing to be done about the radio now as a replacement would not be delivered until after the warranty expired. I complained to Chrysler and was told that since I had receipts from the dealer's service center showing that I had tried to repair the radio three times during the warranty and due to the fact that there had been many complaints against this particular dealer, the radio would be fixed under the warranty. A new dealer removed the radio and sent it out for repair. When I got it back, the speaker control was broken and my console was cracked. The repair on the CD lasted all of 15 minutes before it broke. I then got a bill from Chrysler for the radio repair. I called and said that I had a letter telling me the repair would be covered under the warranty. I was told that Chrysler had "changed its mind." I said that I would not pay for the repair for three reasons; first, I was told that the repair would be covered under the warranty. The receipt from the new dealer clearly indicated no charge, warranty repair. Second, the repair was not effective. And third, the new dealer damaged to my car in the course of attempting the repair. Chrysler's solution was to turn me over to a collection agency. I will never ever purchase a car from Chrysler under any circumstances.
