I also own a 98 Chrysler Sebring coupe. bought it 87k and now have 100k. I had the door panels breaking and had to replace them. rims bent easy and tires suck. the worst thing is the noise coming from the rattling. it is coming from the windows. at first I though it was because of the music system, but later realized it just makes some noise. hate it. also car vibrates a lot over 60mph. just wondering if anyone knows how to stop the rattling from windows and what causes the shaking in the car. thanks.

Due.

Did you guys know that the Sebring Coupes (as well as the Avengers and the Stratus coupes) are actually mitsubishi? and not Chrysler, so don't say your never going to buy a Chrysler, just stay away from Mitsub. cause its their car, not Chrysler.

I have had my Sebring lxi 1998 for about 3 years and have about 115000 miles on it.

When I got it the flex plate was cracked and shortly after I got it, it started catching fire. I towed it to the dealer and they couldn't figure out what was causing the fire. They said the cracked flex plate may be somehow causing it. I told them to check the fuel line because it was right over the fire. They said it was fine. Anyways, $600 later they fixed the flex plate.

I drove away and the car immediately was having electrical problems. I took it back and they didn't put one of my belts on, missing hose clamps, a rag in the engine compartment, grease on the carpets, missing battery hold down bar!!! And my car was still catching fire. I took it to another dealer and they told me my fuel line was bad and leaking. MORONS!!!

Enough about the mechanics... The car is making a rattling noise in the front suspension when going over bumps, passenger door handle came off, liner from sunroof coming off, head lights fogged up, damaged front bumper from curbs. Same problems as most others. For those who don't have these problems, consider yourself lucky. Obviously, if there is this many people with the same problem, then it's just not the way you take care of your car. When I vented to a dealership manager about the problems with the car, he said "we don't make it, Mitsubishi does. So if you have problems, it's not our fault." Let's just say that Chrysler doesn't want to claim their own car. That's sad. Never again!!

Those Rims! I have owned twenty some cars and this is the first time I encountered bent rims when they appear to be okay. All of the shaking complaints are probably attributed to these rims. I learned the hard way when new tires were installed(the cheapest I could find). I turned the rotors and put Wagner pads on the front and it fixed the brakes, actually pretty good stopping power. Door panels were fixed at dealer and they are okay, but not perfect. You definitely must be careful with that low front end and parking. My 98 lxi has 63k on it. The sunroof does not leak however, it will pop out of place somewhat and create a slight air leak, not to bothersome just close the shade and it does not leak water in anyway. Nobody has mentioned the timing belt for the engine. I have gotten various answers on replacement from 60k to 100k, any comments on that?

We have a 1998 Sebring LXI coupe. This car in the time we have had it has blown 13 tires and we now have a bent rim on the car. Goodyear makes crap for tires... does anyone else use any other kind of tire?

I just bought my 98 sebring lxi in march of 07... the side panel fell of right away, but I went to a junk yard and bought one and had it painted for a good price and haven't had a problem with it since. I just bought 2 new tires today just because the needed replacement. I bought coopers, I heard they were good tires so we will see. besides that my car has 50,000 miles and runs great except sometimes going over 65 on the highway it shakes a little. But I love my car, and I get many comments on it whether it be the look or the way it drives... lets just hope it stays that way!!

Me again... from the comment above. Its been a week with the new tires love them... much smoother ride and guess what with the new tires and alignment the car no longer shakes on the highway. I did find out that I have a hole in a flex tube in the pipe that connects the catalytic converters. Anyone else have this problem? If so did you need to replace the hole pipe or could you just replace the flex tube? feel free to email me about anything concerning the sebring wwshorty@msn.com.

I have a '97 Sebring, bought brand new. Other than being taken to the woodshed on the brakes by a Chrysler dealer 1 year after I bought it, it's been a great car. (Went to a reputable mechanic, and had it done right) I've maintained the lube/oil every 3 months, something I've never done with any car in my life (including my Mustang). It paid off, I've had some minimal upkeep and a couple of minor repair stuff. This car, though, took a hit from a semi in the front passenger fender, and saved myself and my passenger's lives. I've had it repaired, and it keeps on ticking for me, I LOVE this car!

I purchased my 2000 Sebring convertible 2.5 liter used with approx. 120,000 miles on it... the body looks great and the leather interior and rag top are in excellent condition. My gripe with this car is the flashing check engine light... it flashes on and off for a few minutes, then either stays lit or turns off to come back on the next day... the oil pressure light occasionally comes on at stop signs and red lights, but goes away when I step on the gas or the engine fan turns on... the car has been tuned up... oil changed...leak in power steering pump fixed (replaced the whole part) it has a small leak somewhere... I check all the fluids daily all levels are fine... had the air conditioner resistor replaced... the window washer fluid motor replaced... The car revs right up when I start it... runs like a charm... those lights flashing at me make me lose sleep wondering when and where this car is going to die on me... any suggestions? Thanks.

We bought a 1988 Chrysler Sebring almost two weeks ago. The car has 75,000 miles on it. We immediately put it into the shop for brakes, rotors, oil change and tune-up. Two days ago the bottom rounded corner of the passenger door panel popped out. The sunroof liner needs replaced and the sunroof leaks in the front left corner. Can anyone tell me how to fix the door panel?

I have a 1998 Chrysler Sebring Coupe LXI (hard top) and for the most part I love my car. Other than some transmission issues that I had with the car a year ago I have had no major mechanical issues. As others on the site have attested to, my sunroof rattles at high rates of speed (I'm over it), my driver side door panel is loose (hasn't fell off), my factory rims were bent (replaced them with new rims), and before I got new tires my car would shake at 65 mph and up. So I am familiar with the issues. My concern is with body repairs to the car. As we all know the front bumper is low and cracks easily. I was in an accident and it took almost two weeks to get it repaired because they weren't able to locate a bumper for my car. Now a year later I was hit again and my bumper needs to be replaced. Has anyone replaced there front bumper and can recommend where I can purchase one? I have searched high and low on-line and no results, except for convertibles. Thanks in advance for any responses!!!

Hi all. This is Sebring owner "1234" I don't want to put in a real name, but I can be referred to as "1234".

I'm back leaving some more info on the progress of my 98 Sebring Coupe LXI 2 door hard top coupe. I've had the car for almost 6 years now.

Well, my distributor has gone out on me at about 65,000 after I washed the engine, so it must have been my fault. Again at around 90,000 miles without washing it, this time it was unexplained. Now I don't wash the engine anymore, it's as easy as that.

The first time I had it replaced they did it at the dealership, $1200.00 ouch! The second time I went to a recommended mechanic and got a cheaper part and total cost was $350.00; much better.

About the factory rims; one of the original rims has bent on me so far because I hit a bump too hard on a sharp turn, and the car jumped a little. It was just a little dent on the rim, but the only company that could fix rims that I found were charging $130.00 to fix it and so I got it fixed for $130.00. I'm hoping I won't dent it again. None of the other rims have had a problem ever since.

The tires, Goodyear Eagle RSA from the factory, gave the car a smooth ride at virtually any speed including at 125mph, but did very bad in wet weather, they hydroplaned quite a bit. To fix the problem I switched to Conti Extreme Contact tires; no more hydroplaning, very good in dry weather too. They were rated very high by Consumer Reports. One flaw; two to them went out of round very quickly, in other words they went bad, this is the main cause for the car vibrating at speeds of 55mph on up. The originals never vibrated like these. I have to try different tires.

The handle for the sunroof is coming off, I'll glue it back no problem. I never use the sunroof, therefore it doesn't give me any problems. When I have used it, no problems occurred. Great! There is a rattle in the root, but not major and it can be heard very seldom no biggie.

The rear-view mirror inside was great for people that had bright lights, being that it had a built in dimmer. I loved using it until it went out after about 9 uses, then it broke. It kind of looked like the stuff in it sank to the bottom and was really hard to see through. To replace it the dealer was charging $415.00. $400.00 for the mirror itself because it had a built in compass, dimmer, and map lights. They were also going to charge $15.00 for the installation. No way! I found a 97 Sebring inside rear-view mirror with map lights and a dimmer for a total of $15.00, I installed it myself. One problem, it had the 7 pins, but they manufacturer changed the functionality a bit. Instead of pressing the button to turn on the light, it turns off, and when turned off, it turns on, so it's backwards now. No problem, it does the job and I haven't used the dimming feature on this one even though it works because I don't want it to break. This part has not given me any problems ever since I put it in.

The rotors and brakes have been recently changed. I have ceramic gold brakes now; the originals did not cut it, the car is too heavy for those brakes, even worse in the rain. The ceramic gold brakes fixed that problem very well and give even better stopping power in rainy weather, I love em. The rotors were kept, that was a mistake. They warp really fast under normal driving conditions. This would be the main cause for the car shaking and rattling when braking. I am going to go with the crossed drilled or slotted rotors next time, that should fix that problem.

Last winter it had a rough idle problem after starting the car in the cold; very easy fix. I bought carburetor cleaner and got a tooth brush and cleaned the combustion chamber. Fixed the problem right away, smoothed out the idle.

No problem with the door handles, I tell people to be careful with my door because it is heavy, all handles have remained intact.

The side panels, one panel came off a little on the driver side, but I caught it and just snapped it back in place, no problems ever since.

One more thing, it has bothered me for a while and no one has been able to fix it. Sometimes the lights flicker in the car, like something isn't grounded right, but I may have caused that because I worked on the engine at 60,000 miles and I didn't fully know what I was doing. It has gotten better since I replaced my battery, I stick to AC Delco it's a pretty good brand and has never let me down.

Nothing else major has happened, I now have almost 96,000 miles on it and the car is still strong.

I have had the same problems with my 98 chrysler sebring Lxi. The transmission, the passenger side door panel, the check engine light, and the low front end bumper. Since I have owned the car, I have not been able to get any sound out of the speakers. Can anyone tell me how to connect the speakers to the infinity amp. I find it complicated because of all the wires that are connected to the amp.

I own a 1998 Chrysler Sebring LXi I love it. I bought it in january of 2007 and it had 99000 miles on and now had 108000 on it. No problems with it, I'm taking a roadtrip to florida next month and I have no worries.
