2009 Chrysler Sebring Sedan Touring from North America - Comments

"Snazzy, sophisticated, and refined"

What things have gone wrong with the car?

I didn't buy one sooner!!!

General comments?

Well, I got the car as a Christmas gift. It was my first car that I actually own. The LHS that this article says that was my first car, was actually my parents friends car... And she just let me drive it all the time.

Anyway, as I said, the Sebring was a Christmas gift. And I'm really satisfied with it. It handles great, the gas mileage is fantastic (around 23 in town, and 30ish on the highway... Although, remember that I'm not very heavy on the gas... Haha).

The exterior is absolutely gorgeous. But I guess that's subjective. The interior is beautiful, but the materials used could be a lil softer... Mine is the touring model, with the YES essentials fabric. It's like water resistant, stain and odor resistant. I don't know what they did to it, but it's really handy when you take your dog out, or when it's rainy, or snowy, whatever!! It's really helpful. And uhh... Let's see. Well, I'm really glad that I got a chrysler sebring!!!

This is why I read these reviews. All of the "Professional" reviewers hate this car, but it seems that the owners love it. Consumer Reports is a joke. I'm glad you like your Sebring, I would love to get the convertible.

23:53 "but it seems that the owners love it"

Shouldn't that be "owner"? - There is only one review of the 2009 Sebring sedan on this site. Only one 2008, as well.

Looks to me like prospective buyers are either taking the "professional reviewers" advice, or deciding to buy something other than the Sebring, on their own.

In my opinion, although okay in its price range, it really is not competitive with others in the same class, and the convertible is poorly engineered as well. Reliability is a big question.

I know!!! I should have included that in my review... Everyone says that this car lacks. But in reality, it's the best! I loooove it! P.s. The covos are sososo nice! Hope you get one soon! You won't regret it!

Well, that's the problem. More people need to look at CONSUMER reviews. NOT CONSUMER REPORTS. They simply give OPINIONATED BIASED REVIEWS. If more prospective buyers would look to fellow consumers, than they would make an informed decision. Because everyday people certainly know more than the people over at Consumer Reports know.

I wrote this review, and have had this car since Christmas of 08, and not a thing has gone wrong with this car. Sure, that's not a very long time, but when you are a driver, you can tell things. And I can tell that this is a GREAT car that DESERVES more POSITIVE reinforcement.

PEOPLE, PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do you research. American car companies need our help now more than ever! American car companies have never been so competitive and great. THIS IS AMERICA, DRIVE AMERICAN. ASK ME WHY I BOUGHT AN AMERICAN CAR.

I think the exterior is beautiful too. And I don't care what the car magazines say - they all just judge everything on how good it would be on a race track. This thread has inspired me to try to find some time to take one for a test drive. Everybody I see driving one seems to have a smile on his face.

The Sebring is a "great car"?

Arguably it's not even a good car or an average car.

You may like your Sebring. You may even love your Sebring, and that is great. But tell us how much you like it in a couple of years. The sad truth is that Sebrings have been plagued Chrysler's bad electrics and poor transmissions.

The reliability ratings in Consumer Reports actually come from surveys that owners of the vehicle being surveyed fill out. They are not "biased opinions" of the magazine.

I hope you are able to enjoy many, many years of trouble-free driving in your Sebring, but based on the Sebring's record you might not.

In my opinion Chrysler deserves to be where it is right now.

"The sad truth is that Sebrings have been plagued Chrysler's bad electrics and poor transmissions."

I looked this up in a Spring 2008 Consumer Reports buyers guide.

Consumer Reports shows for the years 2001-2004, Sebring is "much worse than average" for Transmission Minor problems. And about average for "Transmission Major"

Then in 2005, they move up to "Much Better Than Average" for Transmission Minor and Transmission Major.

For electrical they were average, and moved up to "better than average" for 2005.

Overall CR gave them an average for Used Car Verdict for 2005.

For 2006 and 2007 there was insufficient data for a rating.

Whatever was so bad in 2001 to 2004, they must have fixed it.

Maybe everybody that you see driving one is on their way to return the rental, and their smiling in anticipation of getting out of the Sebring. :)

My 2001 Sebring has 180,000 miles on it and I have never had any issues with is. So yeah, I think they are great cars, and I will buy another one when my current one dies. I have better things to spend my money on rather than throwing 30 grand down on a comparable Camry just so I don't have to hear a little bit of road noise...

Well, it is good that you've kept your car so long (assuming you bought it new) because a new Sebring depreciates rapidly.

If you try to get out of one in the first few years, you will lose big!

19:59, Camry's aren't exactly known for having luxuriously quiet rides.

In response to 25th May 2009, 10:33 -

I've never driven in a Camry that was built in the last ten years, that wasn't quiet, smooth, and perhaps a bit boring. But still a nice car.

Sebrings are not as refined as a Camry (especially the engines) but the price you can actually buy one for is usually much less. Still given Chrysler's spotty record for reliability and durability (Chrysler products tend not to age especially well) the Sebring wouldn't be on the top of my list.

I'm sure there are those that have given their owners years of reliable service, such as the one mentioned in this thread, but they really are not competitive when you examine the other cars in their market segment.

"I think the exterior is beautiful too."

I personally think the older models has much nicer more fluid styling.

Whats with those "ribs" or "stakes" on the hood? Strange, Very Strange. Did the guy responsible for the styling on the Pontiac Aztek have anything to do with that?

The 2010 Sebring will not have the hood lines... supposedly... but I LIKE them. The next Sebring will be a Fiat design I think. It will look similar to the current one. My neighbor just bought a used 2008 Avenger SXT four cylinder and she LOVES it. It has 40K I think and she paid $13000 for it. SHE overpaid... but what you gonna do? She loves it so it is Worth it to her. Ad thing... the unlimited mileage powertrain warranty is only for original owners... unlike GM which transfers to subsequent owners.

Hi,

I am from England and am going to rent a 4 door Sebring sedan from Dollar. I hate the PT Cruiser and loved driving the Sebring when we visited Florida 2 years ago.

I was going to upgrade to a Dodge Charger, but it seems incredibly heavy and uses loads more gas. I think I will stick with the Sebring.

The only really long journey is from Miami to New Port Richey as we are staying there and returning it to Orlando airport.

Question is has the 2009 model changed much from the 2007 model?

Also does it still have that handle/grip in the rear that make access easier when you are getting in and out of the rear doors?
